Special Meeting Results

A special meeting was held during the sunday school and worship time yesterday to clarify some details regarding the HCA property sale. Sometimes our plans require us to get a little more formal than usual, especially when things like the legal documents for the sale of church held property is in question.  A ballot vote was held to formally bless the ministerial to go ahead with the plans to sell the property.  56 responses were received and there was a strong majority that voted in favour of blessing the continuation of the sale.

Thanks for taking the time to handing in ballots yesterday.  With fewer business meetings in the calendar year, not everything can wait till the next planned meeting.

Return to Me by Lynn Austin. After years of watching his children and grandchildren wander from their faith, Iddo’s prayers are answered: King Cyrus is allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem. He joyfully prepares for their departure, only to learn that his family, grown comfortable in the pagan culture of Babylon, wants to remain. His grandson feels torn between his grandfather’s ancient beliefs and the comfort and success his father enjoys in Babylon. But he soon begins to hear the voice of God, encouraging him to return to the land given to his forefathers.

Son of the Underground by Albrecht Kaul. His father was an enemy of the state. His mother was told to have an abortion. His teachers mocked him. He didn’t meet his father until he was four years old. And his family lived on the run for years. Yet Isaac Liu, son of Brother Yun, survived to serve the Lord as a pastor and evangelist himself!

Go to Church Change the World: Christian Community as Calling by Gerald G. Mast. Drawing on Anabaptist life and conviction, Mast presents Christ’s call to all believers to be the church, whether gathered for worship or scattered for service. By exploring such practices as baptism, communion, singing, and group discussion, readers will consider how participation in the life of the church shapes their daily witness in the world.

Angel in the Rubble by Genelle Guzman McMillan. For 27 hours Genelle was trapped in the rubble of Tower One when it collapsed on September 11, 2001. Before rescue workers found her, a stranger named Paul found her, held her hand and encouraged her while she was pinned beneath layers of concrete, iron and glass. However, when Genelle was freed Paul was nowhere to be found. The only answer that made sense to here was that Paul was an angel–sent to rescue and comfort her.

An Open Heart by Harry Kraus. Dr. Jace Rawlings arrives in Kenya fleeing a crumbling life. But when his open-heart surgery patients, after hovering between life and death, warn him of people about to die, a dangerous net quickly tightens around him. He must unravel a tangle of witchcraft, politics, and deceit, and find the faith he needs to restore his world…and survive.

Amish Grace by Donald B. Kraybill. On October 2, 2006, a gunman killed five Amish girls in a Pennsylvania hamlet. A stunned nation watched as the children were laid to rest—and as their grieving parents forgave the murderer. How could they pardon such a heinous act? The authors explore this question and reveal how God’s mercy can triumph in our vengeful world.
